A fine cased nickel plated American Bulls Eye 5 shot .32 rim-fire revolver manufactured by Otis Smith. Circa 1875. The 3 inch barrel engraved on top BULLS EYE and on the side of the barrel PAT. APRIL 6.1875. Birds head shaped wooden grips and a spur trigger. Otis Smith was born in Massachusetts to a Scottish immigrant father in 1836. Otis Smith worked with Ira Johnson (1852-1879) making pistols in Rockfall, Middlefield, Connecticut, until the factory burned to the ground on 21st September 1879. Two years later in 1881, Otis Smith built a new 100 ft by 30 ft three-story brick building on the site where he had manufactured pistols. Cased in a mahogany box (8.5 x 5 inches) lined in red velvet. With an old original cardboard carton for .32 calibre cartridges made by The Union Metallic Cartridge Co. (now empty). The revolver in excellent condition retaining most of it's original nickel plating. Overall length 7 inches. Nice crisp action. A fine almost mint example of a cased .32 rimfire revolver by Otis Smith. Ref 3555.
