Description

A rare Danish Military Model 1772 Heavy Dragoon Flintlock Holster Pistol. This is the classic large military Flintlock pistol which served both with the Danish Army's Dragoons and the Danish Navy from it's adoption in 1772 and throughout the Napoleonic Wars when Denmark took the side of the French. Denmark was effectively eliminated as a fighting force by the British at the Naval Battle of Copenhagen in 1801. This was the Battle when Vice Admiral Horatio Lord Nelson ignored the order to withdraw from his commanding Admiral Sir Hyde Parker by putting his telescope to his "Blind eye" saying "I see no signal". He then went onto to completely decimate both the Danish and Norwegian fleets. The Battle of Copenhagen has always been regarded as Nelson's hardest battle. Brass butt-cap, side plate, trigger-guard, nose cap and ramrod pipes. The two brass ramrod pipes contain a wooden ramrod. This pattern military pistol is also documented as having being carried during the American War of Independence c.1775-1783. Overall length 18 inches. Good working order and condition showing signs of use. A rare Napoleonic era military pistol.  Ref 2427.
This is an obsolete antique pistol and is sold as a collectors item only.
