A rare Forehand & Wadsworth double Action No.32 6 shot, .32 calibre rim-fire revolver. The frame engraved FOREHAND & WADSWORTH DOUBLE ACTION NO. 32, WORCESTER MASS and the barrel engraved PAT'D JULY 24.1877. Forehand & Wadsworth was an American enterprise presided over by Sullivan Forehand, a book-keeper and Henry C. Wadsworth, a former officer in the Union army. These ambitious entrepreneurs rose to prominence in the firearms industry of the 1870s by marrying the boss’s daughters. The boss being Ethan Allen a pioneering gun maker who opened his first shop in Grafton, Connecticut in 1832 and in 1842 entered into partnership with Charles Thurber. Allen & Thurber relocated to Worcester, Mass in 1847. Finely chequered Bakelite grips with the intials F & W. In good condition retaining some of its original nickel plating with a few minor blemishes and some signs of wear. Action in good working order. Forehand & Wadsworth was known in it's time as one of the nation’s best-known manufacturers of small, concealable revolvers. Overall length 7 inches. Ref 9632.
