A very rare American Civil War era "Pettengill's Patent" Army model 6 shot, 44 calibre, enclosed hammer double action Percussion Revolver. Manufactured around 1862 -1863, approximately 2000 of these rare revolvers are known to have been ordered by the US government, and this is one of them. Action is very crisp. The barrel is marked on top with "Pettengills Patent 1856". These rare revolvers are known to have been delivered to the 3rd Michigan Cavalry during the American civil war circa 1862-1863. The wooden grips are stamped on both sides with US government markings. Total number produced was around 3400, making it a much rarer revolver than most civil war era pistols. Condition is good overall but showing signs of wear and some use. A very rare handgun from the time of the American Civil War. Overall length 14 inches. Ref 7094.
