A very Good British Military New Land pattern officer's Flintlock Pistol, marked on the lock-plate TOWER CROWN W. R. Circa 1830-35. During the Napoleonic Wars the British Government had relied heavily upon the British privately owned gun trade and between 1804 and 1817 a total of 1,827,889 muskets, rifles, carbines, and pistols were manufactured for the Government, 3,037,644 barrels and 2,879,203 locks were made and delivered to London for assembly, and around 100,000 items were also delivered to the East India Company, who fought alongside the British forces. This pistol is one made by the British arsenal at the Tower of London after the Napoleonic wars and during the reign of King William IV, Circa 1830-35. The 9 inch barrel stamped with two London proof marks & the letter M. Regulation brass military fittings with steel captive swivel ram rod. Overall length 15 inches. Some minor dents and bruises, a small hole in the stock probably originally for a lanyard board ship, otherwise in very good working order and condition. A very good original Flintlock officer's pistol. Lock in perfect working order and extremely crisp action with a strong spring. This is exactly the type of pistol that would have been used by the British soldier up to and including the Crimean War circa 1853-56, when it fell out of use because of the relatively new invented Percussion system which was used for the remainder of the 19th century. Ref 1664.
