A rare pair of English over & Under double barrel tap-action flintlock pistols made by Richardson. Circa 1795-1820. Engraved on the side plates with the gunmaker's name Richardson. James Richardson had a workshop at 18 Deans Gate, Manchester from 1793 to 1830. Engraved side plates and trigger guards. Walnut flat-sided shaped grips with silver oval escutcheons. Sliding top safeties. London proof marks. Actions in good working order. In good condition with a few minor dings and scratches during their working life. Overall lengths 6 inches. This is the type of pistol that would have been carried by Naval officers and travelling gentlemen during the late 18th century as personal protection weapons. A very attractive pair of tap action flintlock pistols. Ref 3755.
