A superb French (LE-MANS) 19th century presentation Sword with an embossed brass hilt, cross-guard and pommel, dated 1853. The blade etched with a presentation inscription in French; "Carrousel du mans 1853 offert par la ville A Mr Le Capitaine Tilmant Organisateur du Carrousel". The very decorative hilt embossed on 3 sides with classical maidens in flowing robes, the fourth side with what appears to be a North American Indian woman wearing a head-dress, with a snake on the ground beneath her feet. The pommel embossed with four different animal heads. The brass cross-guard embossed with a hunting horn and various hunting emblems. Blade is double edged, length 19 inches. Overall length is 25 inches. Some small areas of rusting to blade, otherwise in excellent condition. A superb and very rare item with French / Le-Mans interest. Ref 2784.
