A rare brass framed 18th century flintlock tinder-box or tinder-lighter & candle holder. Circa 1750-1800. This is a genuine brass framed tinder lighter and candle holder of the type used by early settlers and travellers during the 1750-1820 era. The tinder that was used was usually open weave flax or other material that would be easily combustible. In good overall condition with a few minor dings and scratches to the wooden grip. Unusual for one of these to still retain its original brass candle-holder fitted to the side. In good overall condition. This tinder-lighter is of the type that could have been used during the American Revolutionary war era (1775-1783) as well as during the Napoleonic era. (1795-1820) Length 5.5 inches. Ref 4087.
