An unusual and highly decorative 19th century South African Zulu war club. The very heavy bulbous head decorated with steel studs and copper & brass cartridge heads. The 24 inch shaft wound elaborately with brass and steel wire. These clubs were an indispensable weapon of war, particularly among southern Nguni tribes such as the Zulu. They were also used for killing animals when hunting. Overall length 28 inches. In good condition with a small crack to the head filled with lead to give it extra weight. Ref 1336.
