An Irish flintlock pocket pistol by James Dobson of Dublin. Circa 1796-1803. The frame engraved to one side with a stand of arms showing the British flag and the other side engraved with the makers name J Dobson Dublin. James Dobson had a workshop on 32 Skinners Row, Dublin. (1796-1803). 2.5 inch screw-off barrel and folding drop-down trigger. Flat sided wooden grips. Two proof marks to the underside of the frame. Replacement screw to the frame during it's working life, otherwise in good condition. Nice crisp action. Overall length approx 7 inches. This type of pistol was often carried for personal protection during the 17th-18th century when Highway robbery was commonplace. Ref 7387.
