An exceptionally rare and possibly experimental 11mm 6 shot Belgian double action pin-fire revolver. The barrel is engraved on top D. Gaumerais, and is stamped on the breech LORON Brevete. This revolver is highly unusual as the cylinder slides fully forwards on the frame for loading. By depressing the long lever fitted to the side of frame this releases the barrel which then slides forwards allowing the cartridges to be loaded from the back of the cylinder. It was certainly a very quick release mechanism designed to improve speed of loading and was most likely aimed at the military market. Circa 1865. Finely chequered two-piece wooden grips. 6 inch barrel. Well used condition retaining none of its original finish. Action in good working order. Overall length 11 inches. If you are looking for a rare and unusual example of a pin-fire revolver this may well be the one for your collection. Ref 3399.
