A good quality English Flintlock Box-lock pistol Circa 1800 with a screw-off barrel & folding trigger. The side-plate engraved PATRICK to one side and LIVERPOOL to the other side. The Patricks were a family of gun-makers based in Liverpool. Flat sided walnut butt fitted to the rear with a silver escutcheon. Screw-off steel barrel with lug to the underside. Two British proof marks to the underside of the frame. Good overall condition. Drop down trigger is a little stiff, otherwise action is in good working order. Barrel length 1 inch. Overall length 4.75 inches. A scarce maker. This is the type of pistol that would have been carried in a pocket or a saddle bag during the late 18th century by an English gentleman, traveller, or officer as a personal protection weapon. Some minor wear and signs of use, the trigger is a little stiff from being unused for so many years, otherwise in good condition. Ref 2269.
