Description

A rare early silver mounted Scottish Dirk, circa 1750-1800. The Pommel with a circular silver top. Made by the dirk maker Young of Edinburgh. The traditional wooden grip finely carved overall with Celtic design basket work and complete in its correct silver mounted black leather scabbard and retaining both its original silver mounted small bi-knife and matching fork, this small bi-knife is stamped to the blade with the maker's name "YOUNG". Single edged blade 12 inches in length, stamped with the blade maker's mark; YOUNG EDIN R. Showing very little signs of wear or use. Overall length in scabbard 17 inches. The blade with no edge chips or damage, the silver mounts also without any damage or dents. A very rare piece and in unusually good condition. This is similar to the style of dirk that would have been carried at the battle of Culloden in 1746. Ref 2919.
