A very scarce British 6 shot bar-hammer approx .40 calibre percussion pepper-box revolver of unusual type, made by J. BENTLEY PATENTEE and engraved with the gun-makers name on the side-plate. - J. BENTLEY PATENTEE, 12, South Castle Street, LIVERPOOL. The other side-plate engraved 'SELF ACTING PISTOL''. Circa 1840-1845. Joseph BENTLEY was a very prolific gun-smith, he had a workshop in Birmingham and another work-shop at 12, South Castle Street, LIVERPOOL.  circa 1840- 1850. The side-plates and and bar hammer engraved. Iron trigger guard. Birmingham proof marks to the 4 inch barrels. Wooden bag shaped grips. Action in working order. Some minor signs of wear and use, otherwise in overall good condition. This pepper-box is a most unusual and very rare item. Overall length 8.5 inches. Ref 3997.
