A very rare English Queen Anne style brass framed Silver mounted Flintlock pistol made by HEYLIN of LONDON. Circa 1757 -1799. The screw-off brass barrel approx 5 inches in length stamped under the breech with LONDON proof marks, also stamped underneath the barrel with another mark of M. M.? The makers name inscribed under the pan "HEYLIN". (Joseph Heylin had a workshop at Cornhill, London, he worked approx 1757 -1766 and is known to have supplied weapons to the HUDSONS BAY COMPANY). The butt cap with a large silver grotesque mask. The walnut butt also inlaid with a silver side-plate and a shaped silver escutcheon. An excellent example of the type of weapon carried by a Gentleman or officer during the mid 18th Century. Very good condition and working order. Overall length 12 inches. A superb collectors item by a famous maker. Ref 4029.
