A rare primitive side hammer single shot percussion pistol made by B. FOWLER JR of HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT. Circa 1840. The frame made of brass. The 7 inch heavy part round, part octagonal barrel fitted with double white metal bands, the barrel engraved on top B. FOWLER. Walnut stock with two silver panels inlaid in the wood grips and a wide iron trigger guard. Wooden ramrod (probably a replacement). This style of pistol began to appear around the 1830's. In reasonably good condition. Approx .41 calibre. Action in working order but very stiff. Overall length 11 inches.
