Presenting an exceedingly rare and museum quality matched pair of Napoleonic era English brass blunderbuss pistols of massive proportions. Crafted by the renowned gunsmiths Goodwin & Co. of London and Birmingham (circa 1807–1818). Historically, flintlock blunderbusses with flared muzzles were highly favoured by the 18^th century naval officers and ship captains. They were primarily used in close-quarters combat and boarding actions because their wide bore allowed them to fire multiple balls and they were significantly easier to reload quickly on a rocking ship. The bore size is of huge proportions at approximately 1 inch, complete with the flared cannon-style muzzles. Both pistols are fitted with functional steel belt hooks for easy carry at sea. Each pistol grip is elegantly inlaid with a large, high-quality silver escutcheon engraved with a crest of a griffin. Condition is excellent, beautifully preserved and retaining a stunning aged patina on the brass. Overall length 10.5 inches per pistol.
