A rare matching pair of English percussion travelling pistol by W. Wilkinson of London. Circa 1830-1840. The lock-plates engraved with the makers name W. Wilkinson. The 6 inch octagonal barrels engraved W. Wilkinson London. Chequered grips. Oblong escutcheon fitted to the rear of the butt. Captive swivel ramrods and traditional engraved trigger guards. A small crack to the fore-end of the stock and a replacement nipple to one of the pistols. In good condition. Action in good working order. Overall length of pistols 11 inches. Travelling pistols, also known as overcoat pistols, were intended for use by travellers to protect themselves from highwaymen and other dangers encountered on their journey. Ref 2873.
