A rare Napoleonic era Military Officer's Flintlock Pistol probably manufactured at one of the Dutch Military arsenals and dating from the time of the Napoleonic Wars. Dated on the barrel tang 1815. Rounded brass military skull-crusher butt-cap, matching brass military style trigger-guard, brass fore-end cap and side-plate. Action in excellent working order. This type of heavy calibre flintlock pistol were carried by cavalry officers during the era of the Napoleonic campaigns of the late 18th-early 19th century. This pistol has never had a ramrod as they were carried separately from the pistol. Overall length 15.5 inches. Large chip to the wood stock (see photo), otherwise in very good condition and in working order. Ref 1144.
Napoleonic flintlock pistols are very popular with collectors and are highly likely to increase in value as they get much harder to find keeping in mind the interest generated by the bi-centenary held in 2015 of the Battle of Waterloo (June 1815).
This is an obsolete antique pistol and is sold as a collectors item only.
