A rare Forehand & Wadsworth Pioneer 5 shot .32 rimfire revolver. Circa 1873. The 2 inch barrel engraved FOREHAND & WADSWORTH WORCESTER MASS, PATD OCT 22'61 APRIL 20,'75. The top strap engraved Pioneer. Forehand & Wadsworth was an American enterprise presided over by Sullivan Forehand, a book-keeper and Henry C. Wadsworth, a former officer in the Union army. These ambitious entrepreneurs rose to prominence in the firearms industry of the 1870s by marrying the boss’s daughters. The boss being Ethan Allen  a pioneering gun maker who opened his first shop in Grafton, Connecticut in 1832 and in 1842 entered into partnership with Charles Thurber. Allen & Thurber relocated to Worcester, Mass in 1847.  Chequered grips with the initial's F & W. In overall good condition retaining most of its original nickel plating with a few minor blemishes. Action in good working order. Forehand & Wadsworth was known in their time as one of the nation’s best known manufacturers of small, concealable revolvers. Overall length 7 inches. Ref 4574.
