A rare Civil war era Colt model Navy .36 calibre Percussion revolver. Manufactured in 1861. The serial number denotes the year of manufacture. The 7.5 inch octagonal barrel stamped ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S.A AMERICA. Marked Colts patent to the side of frame. Overall length approx 14 inches. The Colt Navy got it's name from name from the depiction on the cylinder of the Texas Navy’s victory over the Mexican fleet in 1843. When the COLT Navy was produced it soon found a ready market. The Colt Navy was exhibited at the Great Exhibition in London in October 1851. They proved to be so poplar that Colt later established an armoury in London, from which he supplied thousands of Navy model revolvers to the British government as well as individual officers private purchases. This particular revolver was manufactured right at the start of the American civil war (1861-1865) and would have certainly been carried into battle. Action in good working order. Some dings and scratches during it's working life otherwise in good condition. Overall length 13 inches. Ref 3832.
