Description

A rare British Military long Sea Service Tower Flintlock Pistol. Dated 1739. The lock marked 1739 TOWER and a crown over GR (for George 2nd who reigned June 1727- October 1760). The 12 inch barrel stamped on top with two London proof marks. Rounded typical military brass skull-crusher butt-cap, matching brass trigger guard and fore end pipe. Complete with a wooden ramrod and long spring-steel naval belt hook.  Calibre is approx .60. This type of flintlock pistol was carried by British naval officers throughout the various military actions fought during the 18th century, including the Napoleonic campaigns of the late 18th- early 19th century. These pistols were well regarded by serving British officers. Overall length 19 inches. A small crack in the stock at the fore-end otherwise in good condition for its age, showing some signs of use and wear. A great and scarce piece of military history dated 1939. Ref 2755.
