A rare American Antique Single Shot .30 cal rim-fire derringer pistol. Circa 1860-1870. The barrel pivots to the right for loading. Bronze nickel plated frame and polished two piece wooden grips. 3.5 inch octagonal barrel. These spur trigger derringers were made as hideout guns for men and women alike in all walks of life but the ladies of the night out West found them to be ideal for self-protection. Many women of the night kept small pistols handy in their beds or next to their beds, to protect themselves from the hazards of their profession. If she was well enough endowed and wore a tight chemise, she could slip one of these little pistols in her cleavage. Some strapped them against their thighs within a garter. Others carried them in fitted holsters hung on a small belt. Action in working order. 7 inches overall length. Showing some minor signs of use and wear otherwise in good condition. Ref 4286.
