A high quality extremely long 17th century Spanish cup-hilt rapier with a very deep bowl. The chiselled bowl with much engraved floral decoration and twelve elongated rings around the bowl upper edge. Almost certainly made during the 17th century, the blade engraved in the fullers with the letters X A N N A X. The other side of the blade is marked X I N V X The hilt comprising a large circular chiselled and pierced iron pommel, very good quality wire-bound grip, a deep bowl. Iron knuckle bow with long straight quillons. The blade approximately 37 inches in length, Some genuine signs of wear and use, in excellent overall condition, the grip wire possibly a replacement. A nice addition to any collection. Overall length 47 inches. Ref 2497.
