A good English Flintlock Box-lock pistol of Queen Anne style, with a screw-off barrel by Ketland & Co London. Circa 1785-1790. The side-plate engraved KETLAND & Co, decorative engraving to the other side-plate. Ketland & Co had a workshop at Canon street, London circa 1785-1790. Flat sided walnut butt. Screw-off 2.5 inch steel barrel and London proof mark to the underside of the frame. Oval silver escutcheon inlaid to the rear of the grip. Pistol showing minor wear and dings, otherwise In good working order and condition. This is the type of pocket sized pistol that would have been carried by a traveller or gentleman for personal protection during the 18-19th century. Overall length 7.5 inches. Ref 1223.
