A fine and very rare large calibre English cased .52 cal Percussion 6 shot Pepperbox revolver, made by Boston of Wakefield, England. Circa 1845. The pistol engraved on the side-plate with the maker's name Boston Wakefield. John Boston had a workshop in Wood Street, Wakefield circa 1827-1865. Finely engraved blued side plates, trigger guard, butt trap and bar hammer. Finely chequered grips. The 3 inch blued barrels number 1 -6 respectively and with British proof marks. The pistol contained in its original wooden green baize lined carrying case (11.5 x 7 inches) with an original Boston engraved trade label. The case containing an unusual red leather powder flask, steel bullet mold, pewter oil bottle, cap tin and turn-screw. Overall length of the pistol 9 inches. In excellent condition retaining much of it's original finish. The action is in good working order. A fine example of an English percussion pepper-box revolver in its original case retaining most of its original finish. This unusual pepper-box is around twice as heavy as most English pepper-boxes of this type. Ref 4441.
