A scarce Cased .26 calibre double-action percussion pepper-box revolver with nickel silver frame manufactured by J. R. Cooper. Circa 1850. The frame engraved J. R. Cooper & Co self acting revolving pistol. Joseph Rock Cooper worked as a gunsmith in London and Birmingham circa 1838-1866. He is known for his many design improvements to rifles and pistols, but is best known for his pepper-box pistols. 6 shot 3 inch fluted barrels. The frame and trigger guard finely engraved, double action. Complete in an adapted wooden case (11.5 x 7 inches) with a flower shaped escutcheon on the lid marked SWB. The case with it's original faded lining and a later Rigby trade label. Complete with some accessories comprising of a tin marked Eley London, a small copper powder flask, bullet mold, key shaped turn screw and cleaning brush. The pepper-box in very good condition showing little signs of use or wear. Action in good working order. The pistol approximately 7 inches in length. Ref 3651.
