A 1796 pattern Light Cavalry sword carried by THE BRITISH LIGHT DRAGOONS AND OTHER CAVALRY REGIMENTS DURING THE PENINSULAR WARS that the British fought against Napoleon Bonaparte. A British 1796 pattern Light Cavalry sabre of the type carried at the Battle of Waterloo, and throughout the Napoleonic campaigns. Manufactured by D. EGG of London and stamped with the makers name on the back edge of blade. (we have never sold another 1796 sabre marked by this rare maker). Complete with it's original steel scabbard with two hanging rings. Original leather covered wooden grip, the grip with some wear. The Battle of Waterloo, which took place on June 18th 1815, marked the final defeat of Napoleon Bonaparte, who conquered much of Europe in the early 19th century. This sword could easily have played some part in NAPOLEON'S defeat. Very good condition overall. Blade length is 33 inches. Overall length in scabbard is 39 inches. A difficult to find Napoleonic sword in above average condition and by an interesting maker. Ref 4072.
