A scarce single barrel .50 cal percussion target pistol by Cocker of Glasgow, with adjustable set trigger, smooth bore. Circa 1840. Decorative scrolling to the lock-plate and engraved with the maker's name Cocker. William Cocker and his son James had a work shop at 103, Glassford Street, Glasgow, Scotland, 1836-1846. The breech and trigger guard engraved with decorative scrolling. Finely chequered wooden grips terminating in a flared pommel with engraved iron pommel cap.  V notch rear sight, silver metal fore-sight. Adjustable set trigger. 10.5 inch octagonal barrel. Barrel re-browned at some time, some small dents to the wood, otherwise in  good condition showing little sign of use. Action works fine, very strong main spring. Overall length 17 inches. Ref 3901.
